The celebrated event planner trains his eye on the gifting season with a new pop-up shop.
Insider Exclusive Offer:
If you’re already stressing over that impossible-to-shop-for person on your holiday list, you’re in luck. Next week event planner extraordinaire Bronson Van Wyck is launching a pop-up shop at the West Village vintage boutique Overbey & Dunn, where he’ll be showcasing a curated collection of antique and one-of-a-kind giftables that might make even your chicest family member swoon.
Van Wyck knows a thing or two about creating a luxurious holiday atmosphere. He’s planned everything from weddings to birthdays to corporate events for the likes of President Obama, Beyoncé, Martha Stewart, and Sean Combs. From November 16 through January 3, his boutique will highlight the “Southern Comfort” holiday style he picked up at his family’s Arkansas home.
“Growing up on a farm, we were quite removed from things, and there wasn’t much there, so when people came to visit, we had to create the ‘there’ for them,” says Van Wyck. Don’t let the country-boy talk fool you; he comes from one of New York’s oldest families, which includes a former mayor of the city and has a major highway named after it. “We grew up entertaining a lot and taking it very seriously, especially when it coincided with the holidays. So this is a coming together of that tradition in our family with the general Southern tradition of hospitality.”
Gift givers will find a whimsical range of products—all handpicked by Van Wyck himself at antique fairs and flea markets—which he describes as “Arkansas meets Balmoral.” There’ll be ornaments, vintage barware, furniture, candlesticks, and cocktail napkins ranging from $15 to $6,500, as well as home decorations including customized cut trees (starting at $1,250), wreaths, garlands, and mistletoe. Also featured will be a Van Wyck specialty: his very own handmade salad dressings and cocktail mixes, which he’s been giving to family and friends for years.
The store will also offer holiday decorating services. “Creating a holiday look is quite hard. We thought, Let’s do this in a way that allows us to be who we are and do what we do for a broader group of people,” says Van Wyck. “The shop represents the different things we’ve done over the years, but we’re keeping it quite concise. It’s bespoke and unique and couture.”
