Custom Shirts in a New York Minute
One of the only drawbacks to a perfect-fitting tailor-made shirt is that you can’t get one on a moment’s notice, when a last-minute event comes up. That is, it’s a drawback to most tailor-made shirts. Bellucci Napoli, a custom clothier whose three-story headquarters on 57th Street overlooks Fifth Avenue and Central Park, can now produce bespoke Neapolitan shirts in just 24 hours.
Company founder Nedo Bellucci hired up-and-coming shirtmaker Simone Olibet last year to take on the project. “When I met Simone in Naples, he was so ambitious and enthusiastic about the idea, I knew he could make it happen,” says Bellucci.
The shirts (from $675) are measured and cut by Olibet at Bellucci’s 19th-floor appointment-only shop. Clients can choose from roughly 15 different collar, cuff, and button styles, and from 170-to-200-thread-count cottons in 30 colors and patterns. This being a proper Italian operation, clients are often invited to have a glass of wine and some carpaccio on the 18th-floor terrace or in the 20th-floor lounge (which, by the way, may also be booked for private events).
Each shirt is assembled and sewn entirely in-house and stitched with a number that corresponds to a replacement collar and cuffs, which are stored in a personal drawer with the client’s measurements and order history. (They’re periodically dry-cleaned so they’ll match the wear of the original shirt’s fabric over time.)
Bellucci Napoli also offers traditional Neapolitan shirts, made in Italy (from $350), and bespoke suits (from $3,500).
