An Evening of Spirits, Cigars, and Steak
If you’ve ever marveled at the ability of a good cigar to foster moments of peaceful reflection and camaraderie, you’re part of a storied tradition. And few places in New York channel that feeling better than Nat Sherman, which has been a sanctuary for New York tobacco lovers since 1930. Back then, celebrities, rival mobsters, and political heavies would set aside their differences to bond over a shared love of Cuban cigars at Sherman’s.
Now you and a group of friends can capture that spirit at Herf & Turf, a new offer that gets you into the members-only room inside the Nat Sherman Townhouse, where you can settle into a leather sofa with a Churchill and relive old New York.
Hand-rolled cigars are cut and lit for an hour-and-a-half tasting. Booze flows, and you can relax or peruse the company’s commemorative cigars, rolled more than 50 years ago, when the company was only one of three licensed distributors of Cuban cigars east of the Mississippi. Take a cigar for the road (cutters and matches included) to enjoy after you dine at chef Charlie Palmer’s Bar Room at Aureole. What’s for dinner? How about a three-course menu of rabbit and foie gras terrine, prime New York strip steak, and more, plus wine pairings.
Whether you go on for another round after that or head home happy and full is up to you.
Herf & Turf is available for groups of six to 14, Mondays through Thursdays, for $200 per person. Call Nat Sherman (12 East 42nd Street, 646.442.1850) or Aureole (135 West 42nd Street, 646.392.9172).
