Investment-Grade Italian Threads
With the launch of a men’s-only store in the U.S., on 67th Street, Italian fashion brand Bottega Veneta is making a statement about its focus on menswear this season. Along with the opening, Bottega has introduced a complete fall-winter collection of ready-to-wear clothing and men’s accessories, which is available in the New York boutique.
The 2012–2013 collection features a more buttoned-up look than the brand’s earlier menswear lines. The characteristic strong silhouettes appear in slim-fitting jackets with narrow shoulders and tapered sleeves, pants cut close to the body, and handcrafted leather shoes with sleek, elongated frames. There is also a series of items sold exclusively at the Manhattan boutique, including a short structured leather jacket with velvet accents along the neck and shoulders ($2,550).
The store itself is in a historic townhouse, just west of Madison Avenue, which it shares with several art galleries. Bright, airy interiors with ample seating and an open-air courtyard at the back of the store mean men can sit and have a glass of champagne or whiskey while they ponder the goods.
